Fortune island, well it’s not technically a treasure island where you can hunt and find your lifetime wealth. Rather, it offers a nature’s gem standing through the test of time. It is an abandoned resort island located about 14 kilometers off the coast of Nasugbu, Batangas. It is long owned by Jose Antonio Leviste, a former governor of the province of Batangas. He decided to open the Fortune Island Resort Club in 1995, imitating a Greek acropolis.
Currently, the once pristine resort is non-operational – this is why it’s considered an “abandoned” island. The island has no electricity and no fresh water available but has a strong LTE signal. If you want to camp overnight, you may bring your own water for cooking and drinking. If you’re looking for a place to unplugged and find inner peace, well this is the place to go.
Here are the 5 things to do in Fortune island:
1. Tour the whole island
The island was filled with Grecian architecture – from the pillars of Parthenon to the sculptures of ancients gods and mythical creatures. It really feels like you’re in Greece. The pillars withstood the test of time. As they say, the weather is really inclement on this area, causing the waters around this island have been known for being violent and devours ships.
2. Take a dip
The island welcomed us with a strong winds making our boat dock at the back of the island. We thought the boatmen were joking that we have to jump in the water to get to the island. Note: the water is around 30 ft deep. And yes, they weren’t joking. It’s really a new experience to us. Don’t worry the boatmen will assist you in case you don’t know how to swim. You can also do cliff diving on the island but for safety reason you need to ask the boatmen or the island’s caretaker if it’s safe to do diving.
Though this island is “abandoned”, this is still one of the best places to do photo-ops. You can posed like Adonis or Athena beside the pillars located at the edge of the island. Or just a selfie with the Parthenon will do:
4. Roast some marshmallow and tell bonfire stories
When we are conducting our research about this island – we have read a lot of horror stories. However, we did not encounter one. Maybe because we’re that good? hahaha. I recommend to stay overnight. Light up the night with bonfire, roast some marshmallows and tell your stories. I really love the bonfire stories.
5. Visit the lighthouse
So what are you waiting for? Gather the squad and uncover the mysteries of Fortune Island. 🙂
